Youth & Student Ministry

DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR - Youth group meets weekly - Sunday evenings 6-8pm.  We play games, worship and have designated small group time (divided by age group).  In addition to our weekly meetings, we have multiple retreats and FUN activities planned throughout the year.

DURING THE SUMMER - We are passionate about missions at GUMC, and our youth are no different. We typically participate in several mission trips each summer. In 2019, our high school students went to Brooklyn, New York and our middle school group served with the Jeremiah Project in Winchester, Virginia. This past summer 2022, we sent a team of middle and high schoolers to Romney West Virginia to assist with the Jeremiah Project.  Stay tuned for more info about summer 2023.

CONFIRMATION CLASS - This 13-week class is designed for our students to gain a deeper understanding of their faith and in particular their Methodist heritage and basic United Methodist theology. The class typically starts in January, following the Christmas break.  Stay tuned for the upcoming confirmation class sign up.

Youth Missions

Our youth group typically sends out two mission teams each summer, one with our middle schoolers on the Jeremiah Project and another with our high schoolers with various mission organizations. This summer of 2023, we will be sending out a joint middle and high school trip with the Jeremiah Project to Romney, West Virginia.  Stay tuned for the dates.

Youth Protection/Volunteer Policies

We care deeply about the safety and security of our children and youth. All volunteers and those who work with our children and youth must abide by and adhere to our Child Protection Policies. In addition, everyone in these roles must pass a criminal background check, as well as complete our Child Protection training once every three years. If you desire to become a volunteer or want to learn more about working with our youth, please contact Bert Miller, our Youth Director, by email.
