We are the youth program of GUMC, designed for grades 6-12 - a safe place for youth to gather together to worship, explore their faith, ask the tough questions and hang out with their peers.
We previously met weekly on Sunday evenings, from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at GUMC but have changed our programming to better support out students and adult leaders' health during this time. Please see below for our current schedule. Our programs are divided into small groups by grade level, where students use curriculum unique to their small group. We also have some awesome games and participate in various service/mission opportunities as part of our small groups.
In addition to our weekly meetings, we also normally offer multiple
retreats throughout the year. We're holding off on any overnight retreats currently due to quarantine but greatly look forward to them once we can be assured of their safety.
We are passionate about missions at GUMC, and our youth are no different. We typically participate in several mission trips each summer. In 2019, our high school students went to Brooklyn, New York and our middle school group served with the Jeremiah Project in Winchester, Virginia. This upcoming summer of 2022, we'll be sending a team of middle and high schoolers to Romney West Virginia to assist with the Jeremiah Project. If you're interested, click here!
Finally, we also run our annual confirmation class through
our Student Ministry program. This 13-week class is designed for our students
to gain a deeper understanding of their faith and in particular their Methodist
heritage and basic United Methodist theology. For signups for our Confirmation Retreat to Philadelphia and New York, click here!
