Project Mend-A-House

Our adult mission teams do a week-long local mission week every fall, as well as several day projects throughout the year, in conjunction with Project Mend-A-House in the Manassas area. Typically they are building ramps, porches, or renovation projects, all for people who are either low income or at-risk, including disabled persons. For more information, or to volunteer, please contact the church office.

Gleaning

Each fall, we send teams to the Shenandoah Valley to help glean apples and other fruit/vegetables from the fields of local farms. Gleaning is an ancient practice that has its roots in Leviticus 23, where the Jewish community is commanded to leave a portion of the harvest in the fields for the poor. When we go gleaning we collect and bag the food and then donate the food to various shelters, ministries, and food banks. In the last two years alone, we have collected more than 3,000 pounds of apples. For more information, or to participate, contact Bert Miller or the church office.

Haymarket Regional Food Pantry

GUMC has partnered with Haymarket Regional Food Pantry for many years, and is dedicated to supporting the pantry both with food and financial support. We do numerous drives throughout the year to support HRFP, including special Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas drives. In addition, we host our annual Wheels For Meals car show and Chili Cook-Off in October that has raised more than 13,000 pounds of food & $7,500 in cash donations in its five-year history. For more information on the food pantry, contact Pastor Sean or visit their website.

Angel Trees

A tradition at GUMC, our angel trees go up periodically throughout the year to provide ways that our community can provide material support to people and organizations in our area. Our biggest, the Christmas Angel Tree, benefits families at Westgate ES in Manassas, as well as at-risk seniors in our area. We also do smaller trees to benefit Serve Our Willing Warriors, SERVE, the BARN, and other groups. Check our email announcements for updates on the next time you can get involved in an angel tree project!
