Mission Service Day 1: Gleaning
This year's theme for the youth group is focused around service and, as part of that, we are holding three Mission Service Days this school year! These service days allow our youth to learn where there are needs here in our own community before going elsewhere for a full mission trip. As such we are requiring all students who are planning on attending one of our summer 2018 mission trips to attend two of our three service days this year. This is the first one with the next two coming up in January and May. If you are even thinking about going on one of the mission trips next year, PLEASE plan on attending our service days.
This first one will be in Stephens City, VA where we will go to glean at an apple orchard there. For those unfamiliar, gleaning is the ancient practice of harvesting leftover crops missed by the farmers for the sake of those in need. In our case, we will be spending the morning harvesting apples to benefit the Haymarket Food Pantry, Feeding Friends (our church's food truck ministry), and SERVE (the homeless shelter in Manassas). These are fantastic causes and we're quite excited to help them out this year!
We will meet here at the church at 7:15 AM on Saturday, October 7th and drive to Stephens City together to glean. We expect to be back at the church no later than 3 PM so you'll still have the rest of the afternoon to relax after a hard morning's work!
If you're interested at all in joining us, please follow the link below to sign up. There is no cost for participants but we do ask that you pack a bag lunch to bring along with you. If you're an adult who would like to attend as well, please fill out the form separately from your student, mentioning in the comments if you would like to drive as well.
Please register for the gleaning HERE so we know how many people to plan for!
